What is SPAM?

You've probably noticed that a lot of junk mail gets posted through your letterbox nearly every day? Well Spam is that kind of internet junk mail that you just don't want, but they send it to you anyway!
Spam makes up around half of all the e-mails sent around the world, and trust me that's a lot, but most of the time these unwanted e-mails are sorted into a special folder for you. This could be called a 'junk' or 'bulk' mail folder which you should just empty regularly, but sometimes the occasional spam might just find it way into your inbox. (Argh!)

So, what should you do?

Well, you should NEVER open spam as it is probably just trying to sell you something you don't want, or trick you into thinking you've won something! (There's ALWAYS a catch so don't trust them!). At worst, it could contain a nasty virus which may harm your computer!

Also NEVER reply to them or try to UNSUSCRIBE, (Unless you signed up for them in the first place), as this is usually just a way of telling the sender that you got their e-mail so they will just send you more! If you are at all worried about spam or viruses, speak to a parent or carer who may be able to help. Don't worry, It's not your fault someone has sent you this! You can always report spam to your internet provider but most of the time it's just SMART to hit the 'delete' button!
