What does ISP mean?

To get your computer online, you need an ISP (Internet Service Provider). This can be provided through a modem, where the computer uses your phone line to connect to the internet. You may have noticed that if you've picked up the phone whilst connected to the net, you hear a strange noise. This is the modems talking to one another to keep you connected. Some computers however, might use Broadband. This is a lot faster than dial up and you can even chat to your mates on the phone at the same time!
