Newt's Email Advice

Having your own e-mail account is a cool way to stay in touch with your friends and family, and is generally free to use. If you stay SMART and follow a few simple rules then you'll be able to get the most out of your very own mailbox… safely!

It is very likely that from time to time you'll receive emails from someone you don't know. NEVER open these as they probably contain nasty viruses or irritating stuff you don't want to know about. Most of these messages should automatically be sorted into a SPAM folder for you, but if they manage to find their way into your inbox, DELETE them straight away!

If you receive an email with a subject starting with 'Re:' (Reply) from someone you didn't send an email to in the first place, then this is a good indication it is SPAM. Also some virus writers try to pose as important or trustworthy people (such as Bill Gates, the head of Microsoft) or somebody offering you something for free. Remember, you rarely get something for nothing, unless there's a catch. However, you can get a virus for free! Lucky you!
